Critik
Supporting Critical Process |
| Managers' skill in exercising
judgement is their most important ability. They base this judgement on
the quality of their experience. Critik is a tool designed to support managers
who wish to reflect on and learn from the quality and nature of their experience.
Written to operate under Windows, the graphical user interface of Critik
makes it extremely easy to use. The software aids the process of learning
by enabling managers to uncover patterns in the ways in which they attribute
meaning to their experience. In doing this, Critik does not itself draw
conclusions from those patterns, but rather enables managers to do this
for themselves.
Derived from the repertory grid technique, the basic data which Critik works with describe the elements of the particular experience under consideration in terms of concepts expressed as patterns. The value of Critik is that it can be applied in any situation in which managers find themselves making judgements about what-is-going-on. Its use facilitates communication, learning and insight, whether for individuals or groups. Critik comes with extensive
Help facilities as well as a manual
which describes its use and the techniques associated with reflective analysis.
Three areas of application are described in the manual: selection and appraisal,
problem analysis and evaluation; and team consensus building. These areas
of application are not intended to be exhaustive, but cover the main ways
in which Critik can be used. Managers who experiment with Critik will be
able to discover through their own experience the many ways in which Critik
can be used.
